Documents you need
- Passport validity
- Must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure date from the Schengen Area, and have been issued within the last 10 years
- Proof of onward travel
- May be checked at the border — a return or onward ticket out of the Schengen Area
- Proof of accommodation
- May be requested at the border — a hotel booking confirmation or proof of the address where you'll be staying
- Proof of funds
- Officials (Police aux Frontières) can ask visitors to show evidence of around €120 per day of the stay, a return ticket, or — if staying with someone — a signed accommodation declaration (attestation d'accueil), though checks are uncommon for UK tourists arriving with a hotel booking
Money
- Extra fees
- No visa fee for short tourist stays. From the EU's planned ETIAS launch (expected from late 2026), British passport holders will need to apply online for a low-cost ETIAS travel authorisation before travelling to France and the rest of the Schengen Area — similar to the US ESTA
- Departure tax
- No separate cash departure tax — French airport and passenger charges are bundled into your flight ticket price
Health
- Health requirements
- No specific vaccination requirements for travellers arriving from the UK

Rules & notes
- Notes
- Since Brexit, British passport holders visit France and the rest of the Schengen Area visa-free for tourism, business, or family visits of up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period — but that allowance is shared across all Schengen countries combined, not reset at each border. There's nothing to apply for or pay in advance; just make sure your passport meets the 3-months-beyond-departure rule and carries enough blank pages. Keep an eye out for the EU's new ETIAS travel authorisation, which is expected to become mandatory for visa-exempt travellers like UK nationals.
